Thirsty Third Thursday in Backus, MN

Mike Tauber of Backus, MN is hosting a fun and peaceful event to call attention to the craziness that is Line 3, and this naturally will show the relationship between oil and hazardous chemical production. It will also display the difference between the two philosophies at odds; the impossibility camp (we can't run our country cleanly

- we must keep on with last century's technology), and the inevitability camp (we are well on our way to running this country cleanly - quit diverting resources to the old technology).

We are calling this event "Thirsty Third Thursday" at the Backus bike trail parking lot.

Message from Mike Tauber

We are going to have a contest to see who among us has the best drinking water.

We would like to point out that without water liberty is worthless.

Bring 2 quarts of water (preferably in clear glass) to the contest. We'll line them up and number them, and then any who wish can have a sample to evaluate for various attributes (bring your own vessel for the test). Each person can then select their 3 favorite waters.

Points (6 per person - 3 for favorite, 2 for runner-up, and 1 for 3rd place) should be awarded based on:

• Taste, appearance, feel, sound, smell, most local - samples from far off are encouraged but Fiji water may be a bit much, untreated or other such determinations that may or may not be based in human faculty.

• Nitrate levels? (at some point, during the next few months hopefully, we would like to introduce a proper nitrate assessment for water samples).

The top 3 preferred water samples shall pass on to the Final Round where 3 "celebrity judges" will subject the waters to more scrutiny before eliminating 2 waters in a most dramatic fashion. Well... as dramatic as we get around here in a winter parking lot.
